Question Regarding Cause of Upward Spike in my Credit Rating?
My Credit Rating recently spiked upwards by 20 points and I can find no reason for it. I've looked at my Credit Report and it is essentially exactly the same from when I last looked at it; the negative items are still there, I had no negative items anywhere near the tail-end of the 7.5 year period that would have fallen off, and my Debt Utilization ratio is about the same. What gives?
Could this have anything to do with negative items being given less weight as they age? The reason I ask is that this spike in my Credit Rating happened to occur exactly 1.5 years after the clock started on a large dollar value negative item.
Yes you are exactly right it does have something to do with the age of the debt. 20points is a big jump so you may have also had some inquiries on your report that came off and that could contribute to those 20 pts if everything else is the same.

Recent Q. under credit which I answered, got me thinking there has to be some way to deal with credit card cos. customer serv. people who keep playing dumb, or are dumb. A notice with a previous statement said new way to figure my charges by like daily compound, no doubt will increase my minimum payment and finance charges.

You won't have any problems using your Debit card as long as you have the money in your account to cover the cost of any items. If you don't have the money in your account, then your card will be refused. A debit card id better than a credit card because you do not pay interest on any purchases, and you live within your means.

Does having multiple addresses listed on your credit report hurt your credit score?
I note on aaacreditguide dot com, sample dispute letter #1 includes the line, "...you have addresses for me which I do not recognize:" I know my credit report has a dozen or more addresses listed for me, as I have moved more than a few times over the years. Some of them are duplicates, with minor differences. Does this affect my credit score? If the answer is yes, would it be prudent to dispute that alone to the bureaus? What about disputing the really old ones, even if I 'may' have lived there briefly when I was young?
Addresses are tied to accounts and help the credit bureaus verify negative accounts. If you are disputing negative accounts, you want to give the CRA's as little information as you can to verify negative accounts.
Old addresses serve no positive purpose on your credit report. I would dispute every address besides your current address.

If your card has any kind of credit history that is favorable to you, then by all means keep it. It will have a negative affect on your credit score if you cancel the account. In reality the only credit cards you will want to cancel are brand new ones that you have never activated.
Here is a cool tip (very cool if you get my pun).
Take a zip lock bag and fill it about half way with water and place credit card in it. Store it in the back of the freezer. Keep the account open so it positively helps your credit score and keep the card in the freezer for a rainy day emergency.
